Dear Colleagues and Friends of ALPARC,

The Berchtesgaden National Park, created in 1978, belongs with its preliminary forms of protection status to one of the oldest protected areas of the Alps. The 40th Anniversary Year of the park is for me an important occasion to stress the significance of the role of the National Park as a protected area and its involvement in the international network of the Alps.

The pioneers of the Berchtesgaden National Park had a long-term vision for nature protection in this area and this cannot be separated from the integration of the Park in an Alp-wide network for knowledge exchange, the establishment of an ecological network and the realisation of common projects which single parks can’t perform. Our common efforts at international level in this time of climate change and a dramatic loss of biodiversity are more crucial than ever and will be even more so in the future.

Discover the latest news from the alpine network and the upcoming events on this newsletter.

Have a nice reading,
